Two New Orleans Residents Arrested on October 28 in Grant Parish, Louisiana, over Alleged Plot to Smuggle Contraband into a Federal Prison

The Grant Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana announced on October 28 that two residents of New Orleans, in Orleans Parish, have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle contraband into a federal correctional facility.
The sheriff's office said a deputy spotted one of the suspects moving through a wooded area carrying a bag containing tobacco products and cell phones, and investigators believe the person intended to throw the bag over the federal prison's fence so the contraband would land inside. The two arrested were identified as 30-year-old Larenzo Johnson and 27-year-old Paige Taylor, both of New Orleans.
Johnson is charged with transporting contraband into a correctional facility; Taylor faces the same charge plus marijuana possession. The sheriff's office did not say how many phones or how much tobacco was seized, and released no further details.
Cell phones and unauthorized tobacco are both treated as contraband in federal correctional facilities and can pose safety risks to incarcerated people, staff and daily operations. The sheriff's office said this is the latest action by Grant Parish law enforcement to keep contraband out of correctional facilities.
Both suspects are presumed innocent unless convicted in court, and further developments await the judicial process.
