Brookhaven, DeKalb County, Georgia: Proposed 2027 Budget Released October 28 Raises Spending While Keeping the Operating Tax Rate Unchanged

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · City · GSM News

The City of Brookhaven, in DeKalb County, Georgia, released its proposed 2027 budget on October 28: a $45.6 million General Fund budget, up 6.7% from the adopted 2026 budget, while keeping the operating property-tax rate unchanged at 3.85 mills. A separate $6.2 million capital budget puts $2 million toward pavement management and continues work on sidewalks, a roundabout and the Peachtree Creek Greenway.

The operating proposal funds employee compensation and benefits, public safety and 911 dispatch services. The city notes that an unchanged operating rate does not guarantee every homeowner's total tax bill will stay the same.

The City Council will hold budget hearings at 6:30 p.m. on November 3 and November 17 at City Centre, with adoption scheduled for consideration after the November 17 hearing. Free printed copies of the 24-page Budget in Brief are available at city facilities, and questions can be sent to [email protected]. Mayor Pro Tempore John Funny hosted the District 4 town hall on October 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Planning, Engineering and Permitting Building, 2665 Buford Highway, with a virtual option; Councilmember Madeleine Simmons' “Mondays With Madeleine” is set for November 2, and the District 2 community meeting for November 10.
