New Jersey Governor Sherrill's Approval Rating Falls to 48% in October FDU Poll, Down From 58% in March, While Disapproval Barely Moves

A Fairleigh Dickinson University poll (FDU Poll) released on October 28, 2026, shows that New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill's job approval rating has changed, though not because opponents have grown in number. The poll finds that 48 percent of New Jersey voters now approve of Sherrill's performance and 32 percent disapprove; the approval figure is 10 points below March's 58 percent, while disapproval is essentially unchanged from 34 percent earlier this year, with the shift driven mainly by more voters saying they "don't know" how to rate her.

Dan Cassino, a professor of government and politics at Fairleigh Dickinson University and executive director of the FDU Poll, noted that the rise in "don't know" responses is not a general phenomenon: in the same poll, only 5 percent of voters said "don't know" about President Trump, with 66 percent disapproving and 29 percent approving. Among Democratic voters, Sherrill's approval has fallen to 71 percent, while disapproval rose only slightly, from 7 percent to 12 percent.

The poll was conducted from October 16 to 22 by Princeton-based Braun Research through live telephone interviews and text-to-web surveys sent to cellphones, interviewing 805 registered voters; unlike the March figures, which were weighted to all voters, this sample was weighted to likely voters in the upcoming midterm elections.
