U.S. Strike on Go-Fast Vessel in Eastern Pacific Kills Five: SOUTHCOM Says Intelligence Confirmed Drug Trafficking, Campaign Toll Reaches 243

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced on October 27 that Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere carried out a lethal strike that day on a go-fast vessel in the Eastern Pacific, killing the five people aboard. In its statement, the command said the vessel was operating along established narco-trafficking routes, that 'confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel's active involvement in narco-trafficking,' and described those killed as 'narco-terrorists.'

SOUTHCOM released imagery of the operation but did not make public the intelligence behind its trafficking allegation, nor did it specify the vessel's exact location or cargo. According to USNI News' tabulation, the strike brings the death toll from the campaign the Trump administration began in September 2025 against suspected drug boats in the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific to 243 people; independent trackers counted this as the 72nd strike. Human rights groups and United Nations experts have repeatedly condemned the strikes as extrajudicial killings, and the American Civil Liberties Union has called the administration's assertions against those it targets unsubstantiated. The administration says the vessels it has struck were transporting narcotics.
