Follow-Up: Flavio Bolsonaro Arrives in Miami, Greeted by Brother Eduardo, as His Brazilian Passports Are Cancelled

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · World · GSM News

Following this site's report this morning that Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro had left Brazil for the United States via Argentina and Ecuador, his journey has reached its destination. According to Bloomberg, citing Brazil's O Globo newspaper, Flavio Bolsonaro has arrived in Miami, Florida, where he was greeted by his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro. Eduardo has lived in the United States since last year, lobbying the Trump administration on behalf of their father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Reuters had earlier reported that Flavio crossed into Argentina with his wife and two daughters late on Tuesday via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, then boarded a private plane operated by Baires Fly S.A. that traveled via Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Miami's Opa-locka Executive Airport, where it was scheduled to land at 9:18 a.m. local time on Wednesday. A senior State Department official said on Tuesday that the United States would grant visas to Flavio and his family. President Trump told reporters early Wednesday, after returning from a campaign trip to Texas, that he would have approved of Bolsonaro coming to the United States, but thought that he was in Argentina.

Flavio Bolsonaro lost Sunday's presidential runoff election in Brazil to incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. He is facing multiple criminal investigations in Brazil. Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ordered him to surrender his passports to the Federal Police by Tuesday, citing flight-risk concerns, but he failed to do so, and according to a police source his passports have since been cancelled.

Flavio's father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, is serving a 27-year sentence for plotting a coup after his 2022 election loss, and freeing him was a central theme of Flavio's campaign. Lula has accused Washington of colluding with the Bolsonaro family to help return them to power, and Flavio's arrival in the United States is expected to deepen the rift between Brazil and the United States.
