Electra Picks Springfield, Ohio for HQ and Manufacturing: $850M Investment, 1,975 Jobs

Springfield, in Clark County, Ohio, is getting an aviation manufacturer. Governor Mike DeWine announced on October 28 that Electra has chosen Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport as the site of its headquarters, manufacturing and flight-test facility and fixed-base operation, an $850 million investment expected to create 1,975 jobs.
Electra's flagship product is the EL9, a nine-passenger hybrid-electric short takeoff and landing aircraft. The company says it holds pre-orders for 9,000 aircraft worth more than $20 billion. Springfield-Beckley's 5,000-foot paved runway matches the EL9's required takeoff distance.
Electra founder and CEO Marc Allen said the company will concentrate its headquarters, final assembly and flight testing in Springfield. The company is backed by Embraer and NASA.
The Governor's Office said the project will bring manufacturing, engineering and aviation-services jobs to Clark County and the surrounding region, making it one of Ohio's larger recent aviation investments.
