Iowa Governor Reynolds Issues Disaster Proclamation for Sac County After HPAI Detected at Commercial Turkey Facility

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds on October 28 issued a disaster proclamation for Sac County after highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was detected at a commercial turkey facility in the county.
The proclamation takes effect immediately and runs through November 27, 2026. It allows state resources to be deployed to assist the local response, including depopulation, monitoring and biosecurity work aimed at containing the outbreak.
State officials urged poultry producers to strengthen biosecurity measures, watch flocks closely and report unusual deaths promptly to state veterinary authorities.
Highly pathogenic avian influenza has repeatedly hit poultry-producing regions of the U.S. Midwest in recent years, with commercial turkey and egg-laying operations among the hardest hit and outbreaks often affecting turkey and egg supplies.
