Alabama Welcomes 44 New ALEA Troopers as Class 2026-B Graduates in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Montgomery County, Alabama — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) welcomed 44 new troopers on Oct. 28 at the graduation ceremony for Trooper Class 2026-B, held at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre. ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor, the state's highest-ranking law enforcement officer, urged the graduates to take pride in their accomplishments and remain committed to their oath.
Training for Class 2026-B began May 18 for uncertified candidates, with previously certified officers joining Aug. 24. The 44 graduates will serve across Alabama's seven Highway Patrol Troops, including four assigned to the Marine Patrol Division and one to the Protective Services Division, supporting ALEA's mission on the state's highways, waterways and the Capitol Complex.
Gov. Kay Ivey's office noted this is the final trooper class of her administration; starting annual pay for an ALEA trooper trainee has risen from $35,589.60 in 2017 to $57,861.60, and Ivey signed Senate Bill 68 expanding State Police Tier 1 retirement benefits.
