Florida King Tides: Coastal Flooding Continues Through the Week as Miami Gauge Hits Third-Highest Level Since 1994

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · States · GSM News

MIAMI, Miami-Dade County, Florida — Coastal flooding driven by king tides and persistent onshore winds will continue through the week along South Florida's Atlantic coast, the National Weather Service office in Miami said Oct. 28, with major saltwater flooding possible from Palm Beach County to the Florida Keys.

The Virginia Key tide gauge in Miami recorded a preliminary peak of about 2.5 feet above mean higher high water on Tuesday, Oct. 27 — the third-highest level at the station since consistent records began in 1994, behind only Hurricanes Wilma and Irma, and the highest non-hurricane reading there. Sections of Ocean Boulevard and other thoroughfares between Miami and West Palm Beach were inundated, and Fort Lauderdale and Miami both reached "major" flooding levels on Tuesday.

Coastal Flood Warnings for Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties ran through 8 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Coastal Flood Advisories through Thursday evening, with moderate flooding still expected around high tide; the Florida Keys remained under a Coastal Flood Warning through 5 a.m. Thursday. The Weather Service warns that salt water can damage cars and urges drivers never to drive through flooded roadways.
