Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. Named NFC Offensive Player of the Week After 29-20 Win Over 49ers

ATLANTA, Fulton County, Georgia — Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week, the team announced Oct. 28, for his performance in the Falcons' 29-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers — the first such honor of his NFL career.
In the Week 7 game on Oct. 25 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Penix completed 25 of 34 passes (73.5 percent) for 213 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, for a 118.9 passer rating, the third-highest of his career. His 21-yard touchdown strike to Drake London on the first play of the fourth quarter gave Atlanta a two-possession lead, and handed the 49ers their first loss of the season.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski praised Penix's growing feel for when to attack and when to check down. "You can sleep good at night when you have Michael Penix playing quarterback for you," safety Jessie Bates III said. This season Penix has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 1,157 yards with nine touchdowns and one interception.
