Indianapolis Air Quality Advisory: PM2.5 Levels Elevated From 6 P.M. Oct. 28 to 10 A.M. Oct. 29

INDIANAPOLIS, Marion County, Indiana — The City of Indianapolis issued a Knozone Advisory from 6 p.m. Oct. 28 to 10 a.m. Oct. 29, as fine particulate matter, PM2.5, is expected to rise to levels unhealthy for everyone for several hours. Individuals in sensitive groups — including children, outdoor laborers and people with heart and lung illnesses — are advised to remain indoors as much as possible during the advisory.
It is the city's second consecutive air quality advisory this week, following stagnant weather conditions in Central Indiana. A layer of air close to the ground and calm overnight winds could trap pollution and cause PM2.5 to rise, according to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's local air quality advisory.
City officials also recommend keeping windows closed, running an air conditioner or purifier, and recirculating air inside vehicles to reduce exposure. Updated air quality information is available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and residents can sign up for alerts through smogwatch.in.gov.
