Hyundai Motor's Montgomery Plant in Montgomery County, Alabama Announces Expansion on October 28: About $450 Million to Boost Hybrid and Extended-Range Production, Adding 53 Jobs

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Alabama, announced an expansion plan on October 28, investing about $450 million to increase engine production capacity for hybrid and extended-range electric vehicles and to upgrade production lines for the all-new Tucson and the updated Santa Fe.
Figures released by the governor's office put the capital investment at $412.9 million with 53 new full-time jobs. Governor Kay Ivey and South Korean Ambassador to the United States Kang Kyung-wha attended the announcement, and the project carries the in-state code name 'Project Game Changer.'
Hyundai said the all-new Tucson will go into production at the Montgomery plant before the end of 2026, while the Santa Fe extended-range electric vehicle is planned for launch in the first half of 2027. The Montgomery plant currently employs about 4,200 people, and Hyundai Motor Group has previously committed to investing $26 billion in the United States between 2025 and 2028.
The expansion adds no new vehicle assembly capacity; its focus is greater flexibility in engine and model production to meet growing U.S. market demand for hybrid models.
