Conservative Group Launches Arkansas Chapter in Little Rock, Pulaski County on October 29: Former State Senator Hutchinson to Lead Death Penalty Review Effort

In Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, the conservative organization Conservatives Concerned announced on October 29 the launch of its Arkansas chapter, led by former Republican state senator Jeremy Hutchinson. The chapter will mobilize conservatives across the state to re-examine the place of the death penalty in Arkansas's justice system, conducting public education, community outreach and engagement with policymakers around the reliability, fairness, cost and effectiveness of capital punishment.
Arkansas has not carried out an execution since April 2017, when four people were executed over 11 days, but the death penalty remains in place, and one person has so far been exonerated from the state's death row.
Hutchinson said Arkansans should honestly examine whether the death penalty is an effective use of government resources and whether its irreversible risks are justified when other means of protecting public safety exist. The chapter advocates judging the death penalty by conservative principles such as limited government, fiscal responsibility and human dignity, and aims to bring more conservative voices into the discussion.
