Duling Hall in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi, hosted soul singer Dorothy Moore's homecoming concert on the evening of October 29, celebrating the 50th anniversary of 'Misty Blue.' Moore was born in Jackson and grew up near North Farish Street, performed early on in talent shows at the historic Alamo Theatre, later attended Jackson State University, and launched her career through Jackson's Malaco Records.
Released in November 1975, 'Misty Blue' reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 on the R&B chart in 1976, brought Moore national fame, and earned multiple Grammy nominations. Moore said in an interview that celebrating the song's 50th anniversary in her hometown, where it all began, thrilled her, and that performing felt like returning to the starting point of the Alamo Theatre.
The evening's set list included, alongside her signature song, works from across her career, including songs released on her own Farish Street Records. Moore emphasized that she still insists on using Mississippi musicians, noting the state has excellent players. The concert was both a tribute to a classic song and a look back over a music career spanning more than sixty years.
