North Dakota's First Life-Size Gandhi Statue Unveiled at Bismarck's Peace Park on Oct. 29, Hosted by the Governor, First Lady and India's Consul General in Seattle

A life-size statue of Mahatma Gandhi -- the first in North Dakota -- was unveiled on October 29 at Peace Park, 400 East Front Avenue, in downtown Bismarck, the state capital in Burleigh County. The Consulate General of India in Seattle said the statue was installed with its assistance and technical support from North Dakota's Indian community and the North Dakota Trade Office.
Attending the ceremony were Governor Kelly Armstrong, First Lady Kjersti Armstrong, Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, Bismarck park district officials and members of the Indian community. The statue was unveiled by the governor, the first lady and India's consul general from Seattle, and organizers called it a milestone in the Indian community's promotion of peace and nonviolence in the state.
