Issaquah, Washington, in Line for $1,657,627 State Public-Safety Grant to Add Two Police Positions; City Council Approval Still Required

The City of Issaquah in King County, Washington, is in line to receive $1,657,627 in state funding to expand public-safety staffing, including two new positions at the Issaquah Police Department, at least one of them a dedicated traffic officer. The money comes from the state Criminal Justice Training Commission's public-safety funding program, authorized by House Bill 2015, signed into law in 2025 to provide more funding to police agencies across Washington.
City officials said the added staffing would strengthen traffic enforcement and community patrols and ease the department's manpower strain. The grant is not final, however: the Issaquah City Council must still vote to accept it before hiring can begin. Issaquah sits east of Seattle in King County.
