Missouri Highway Patrol Runs Statewide Traffic Safety Week Ahead of Halloween, Focusing on Impaired and Distracted Driving

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is running a statewide Traffic Safety Week from October 28 to November 2, stepping up patrols ahead of Halloween and through the weekend, with particular attention to impaired and distracted driving. Troopers remind drivers to watch for trick-or-treating children, drive sober, put phones down, and follow the state's new hands-free law, which took effect in August.
The campaign covers Jefferson City in Cole County and other regions, and the patrol will deploy additional personnel as traffic surges around school and neighborhood events, when children are at highest risk. Distractions such as eating, adjusting the radio and searching the cabin endanger other vehicles in seconds, and drivers who plan to drink are urged to arrange a sober ride or ride-hailing in advance.
