Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts: MBTA Announces on October 29 Partial Green Line Shutdown over Halloween Weekend with Free Shuttles

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · City · GSM News

The MBTA in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, announced on October 29 that service on portions of the Green Line will be suspended over Halloween weekend to complete critical signal upgrades, and riders should plan for significantly longer trips. The suspension is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, and the agency estimates some trips could take at least 25 minutes longer than normal.

No Green Line trains will operate between North Station and Heath Street on the E branch, or between North Station and Babcock Street on the B branch. On the C and D branches, service will be suspended between North Station and Kenmore.

The MBTA will offer free shuttle bus service connecting passengers to Copley and Back Bay stations, where they can access the Orange Line. Several bus routes will also be free during the shutdown, and Framingham/Worcester Line service between Lansdowne and South Station will be free.

An MBTA spokesperson said the shutdown is necessary to maintain previous infrastructure improvements and continue modernization work. Riders should also expect additional Green Line work and similar disruptions the following weekend.
