Honolulu to Hold Second Safer Streets Workshop Nov. 4 on Beretania and Two Other High-Crash Corridors

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · City · GSM News

The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Transportation Services announced on Oct. 29 that it will hold a second public workshop for the Honolulu Safer Streets project on Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall of Central Union Church, seeking public input on traffic safety improvements for high-crash corridors.

The workshop will focus on the full length of Beretania Street, South King Street from Alapai Street to Kapiolani Boulevard, and Young Street from Victoria Street to Punahou Street. Potential changes include enhanced pedestrian crossings, protected bicycle lanes, transit-priority treatments, traffic calming, lower speed limits and traffic signal modifications.

The project covers seven corridors in all, also including Kapiolani Boulevard, Wilder Avenue, Piikoi Street and Kaheka Street. Although the corridors make up a small portion of Oahu's roadway network, they account for a disproportionate number of serious injury and fatal crashes. The initiative is funded through the Federal Highway Administration's Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program, with planning expected to continue through 2027. Residents can also submit concerns through the project's web map.
