Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California: LA28 Organizers Announce on October 28 That Kathleen Kennedy Will Lead the 2028 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics announced on October 28 that film producer Kathleen Kennedy will serve as head of ceremonies and content, overseeing the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2028 Summer Olympics. She takes over the post previously held by Peter Rice, who stays on as an executive producer. Kennedy, the former head of Lucasfilm, is now an independent producer.
The Games will open on July 14, 2028, with dual ceremonies at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium. Kennedy will lead the producing team shaping the look and content of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as both ceremonies for the Paralympics, which start a month later. Organizers said the goal is ceremonies that are distinctly Los Angeles.
LA28 chair Casey Wasserman called Kennedy "one of Hollywood's all-time greats" and said he could not think of anyone better to conjure the magic of Hollywood.
Kennedy said she and her husband and producing partner, Frank Marshall, have attended nearly every Olympics since the Games last came to Los Angeles in 1984, and that sport remains one of the great unifying experiences people share. She said Rice has laid a terrific foundation and that she looks forward to working with creative director Ben Winston and the wider team.
