Cathy Huang, a Chinese American restaurateur from Manhasset, Nassau County, New York, was honored on October 29 by P.O.W.E.R. (Professional Organization of Women of Excellence Recognized), which selected her for her achievements in dining and entrepreneurship. Her image was showcased on September 23 on the Times Square billboards in New York City, on "The Cube," six giant screens on 47th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway. Times Square draws around 50 million visitors a year, with an average of about 330,000 pedestrians passing through daily, and is known as the Crossroads of the World.
Huang owns the Pearl East Restaurant in Manhasset, a recognized Long Island dining destination known for its devoted clientele and frequent celebrity guests.
Before becoming a restaurateur, Huang worked as a high school teacher in Taiwan. She immigrated to the United States in 1973 and studied piano performance at the Manhattan School of Music. She later co-founded Peking House with her late husband, helping build it into one of the region's first upscale Chinese dining establishments.
After her husband's passing in 1998, Huang became a single mother of two and took over leadership of Pearl East, building it into a beloved local staple.
