Maricopa County environmental services inspectors cited metro Phoenix stores for 11 priority violations during inspections in the week of Oct. 5, with results published Oct. 29. Inspectors visited nearly 1,400 food-serving facilities that week.

Fast Fill Market at 102 S. 24th St. in Phoenix was cited for selling ice from an unapproved, unpermitted source; the ice was thrown away during the inspection and staff were told ice must come from an approved source. Rozi Food Market at 10643 N. 43rd Ave. was cited for open containers of ready-to-eat foods including dried fruit, raisins, nuts, seeds and candy offered for self-service without lids or scoops; staff provided scoops and covers during the inspection. Jax Market at 4001 E. Bell Road was cited for storing an ice scoop in an orange bucket not approved for food contact; it was replaced with a food-grade container.

Other cited stores included two Circle K locations in Phoenix and Glendale (the Phoenix store's permit was suspended over a drain backing up beneath its three-compartment sink), DF Market at 1116 S. Dobson Road in Mesa (two violations, including unrefrigerated eggs), a Sprouts Farmers Market in Chandler (unapproved copper and brass plumbing components), Tempe Market in Tempe (laundry detergent stored above disposable plates and bowls), and Sunshine Market at 2302 N. 12th St. in Phoenix (refrigerated foods stored at unsafe temperatures).

Two more Mesa stores were cited: AM/PM at 1208 S. Ellsworth Road, where a mop sink faucet had a plumbing connection to a chemical dispenser that could allow contaminated water to flow back into the supply (the connection was removed), and Mr J's Market at 559 N. Country Club Drive, where laundry detergent was stored above packaged food and was moved during the inspection.
