Detroit Red Wings Suspend Captain Dylan Larkin Without Pay on Oct. 29 After He Says He Will No Longer Play for the Team

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · sports · GSM News

The Detroit Red Wings announced on the afternoon of Oct. 29 that captain Dylan Larkin has been suspended without pay, after Larkin informed the team that he will no longer play for the Red Wings. Larkin's agent Pat Brisson told the Detroit Free Press that day that Larkin 'has had enough of the situation,' and that the team has been unable to find a workable trade. Brisson came to Detroit this week to discuss the matter with the team in person.

Larkin missed practice on Oct. 28, described at the time as a maintenance day, and head coach Todd McLellan confirmed on the morning of Oct. 29 that he would not play that night against the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena. Hours later, the team and interim general manager Shawn Horcoff issued a statement announcing the suspension without pay, saying Larkin had informed the team he would no longer play for the Red Wings and expressing disappointment, especially given his obligations to the team and his teammates.

Larkin, 30, is from Waterford, near Detroit, and has 2 goals and 4 assists in 10 games this season. He requested a trade in April after the 2025-26 season, initially listing three teams, a list that has recently grown to ten, and he holds a no-trade clause.
