Thursday, October 29, 2026 · City · GSM News

The annual election for Seattle's Chinatown International District International Special Review District Board is being held by mail-in ballot, with ballots required to arrive at the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods by November 17. Department staff will hold special office hours on November 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hing Hay Coworks, 409 Maynard Avenue South, to accept ballots in person, with Vietnamese and Chinese interpretation provided.

The board announced its candidates on October 22, after nominations closed on October 19. Two seats are up for election: Position 3, for a business owner, property owner or employee, which received no nominations, and Position 5, an at-large seat, whose sole candidate is Samantha Wong, the board's current chair and a practicing architect who has served as vice-chair of the Seattle Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Founded in 1973, the board works to preserve and enhance the district's cultural, economic and historical character; it has seven members, five elected by the community and two appointed by the mayor, serving two-year terms of up to two consecutive terms.
