Ohio Gubernatorial Candidate Ramaswamy's Ad Featuring Opponent Acton's Mother Stops Airing; He Said in Vandalia on October 29 It Had Run Its Course After $4 Million Spend

An Ohio campaign ad by Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy featuring his opponent's mother has stopped airing. At a campaign stop in Vandalia on October 29, Ramaswamy said the ad had "run its course" and that his campaign had launched four other ads. In the ad, Donna Arthur, the estranged mother of Democratic opponent Amy Acton, accused Acton of lying about her political opponent and her personal past.

The ad drew backlash after it aired, and figures including Republican Governor Mike DeWine had called for it to be taken down, but the Ramaswamy campaign still put $4 million behind it. President Donald Trump defended the ad at an October 28 rally in Chillicothe. In his campaigning, Ramaswamy focused on cutting property taxes and banning sanctuary cities, and on October 29 he announced a plan to investigate every locality where property taxes have more than doubled since before the pandemic.

Acton's spokesman Addie Bullock responded that Ramaswamy should never have made the ad in the first place. The gubernatorial contest between Ramaswamy and Acton will be decided on Election Day, November 3.
