Massachusetts Early Voting Reaches 903,279 by the Night of October 28 as Poll Sites Add Equipment for High Turnout

Early voting in Massachusetts continued to climb on October 29, 2026. According to preliminary figures from the state board of elections, 903,279 people in Massachusetts had voted early as of the evening of October 28.
Over the same period, 1,110,053 people had voted early in New York State, and 131,611 in Vermont, an early turnout rate of 26.1 percent. Early voting across the Northeast has been brisk this year, with races for governor, members of Congress, ballot initiatives and state and local offices on the ballot.
Early voting in New York's Albany County is close to doubling: by the close of voting on October 28, nearly 26,800 people had voted early in the county, already exceeding the roughly 25,000 who voted during the entire nine-day early voting period of the 2022 midterms. Albany County Democratic Election Commissioner Allison McLean Lane said staff have been going back and forth between poll sites to make sure voting runs smoothly and without barriers, and have brought in more machines and poll pads for that purpose. She expects the high turnout to remain steady through the final days of early voting.
Early voting in New York runs through Sunday, and Election Day in all 50 states is Tuesday, November 3. County board of elections websites list polling site locations and hours, which voters can check in advance.
