CMS Announces $87 Million for 129 Rural Healthcare Providers Across Texas Under Rural Health Transformation Program

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on October 29 that the Trump Administration will provide $87 million in Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) funding to 129 rural healthcare providers across Texas, delivered through the state's Rural Texas Strong initiative to strengthen healthcare in rural communities.

CMS said the funding will help rural providers prevent and manage chronic conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and chronic respiratory disease; recruit and retain physicians, emergency medical personnel and other healthcare professionals; replace aging medical equipment; and improve existing facilities, bringing quality healthcare closer to home for rural Texans.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said: "President Trump understands that every American deserves high-quality healthcare, no matter where they live. We are putting resources directly into rural communities to strengthen the health workforce, modernize infrastructure, expand access, and bring care closer to home."

CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said: "President Trump gave states the resources to transform rural healthcare, and now we're seeing those dollars move from plans into action. In Texas, that means rural providers can recruit and retain the physicians and emergency personnel they need, replace aging medical equipment, and help patients prevent and manage chronic conditions close to home."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said: "Rural Texas communities deserve access to top-notch, reliable care. This more than $87 million investment will help to recruit and retain the next generation of healthcare professionals, replace aging medical equipment, and strengthen facilities across Texas communities to improve patient outcomes."

CMS said the investment was made possible through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which delivered a historic $50 billion investment for the Rural Health Transformation Program, and that today's $87 million announcement is one part of the larger overall funding amount awarded to Texas for fiscal year 2026. Members of the Texas congressional delegation, including Rep. Ronny Jackson, also voiced support in the announcement.
