Thursday, October 29, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The Federal Trade Commission on October 29 released highlights of its efforts to combat imposter scams, reporting that it has shut down 19 websites impersonating the FTC and that its enforcement actions have returned more than $80 million to consumers since the agency's Impersonation Rule took effect in 2024.

The Impersonation Rule, which took effect in 2024, prohibits the impersonation of government agencies and businesses. The FTC said the figures cover both the takedown of impersonation websites and redress secured through enforcement actions.
