USCIS Says About 2.2 Million Unlawful Aliens Have Had Status Revoked or Terminated Since January 20, 2025

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on October 29 that since January 20, 2025, USCIS has taken enforcement actions revoking or terminating the immigration status of about 2.2 million unlawful aliens, nearly seven times the total of the final two years of the Biden administration. The figure is counted separately from State Department visa revocations and denials and from removals carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), officials said.

According to DHS, the measures include correcting abuses of Temporary Protected Status (TPS); denying extensions or changes of nonimmigrant status that lack a legal basis; issuing Notices to Appear (NTA) referring people to immigration judges; ending automatic extensions of employment authorization documents; and ending categorical parole in favor of case-by-case review.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said those who abuse the U.S. immigration system will be held accountable.
