USDA $24.6 Million Loan Guarantee Backs New Beef Processing Plant in Dimmitt, Texas: About 400 Head a Day, 220 New Jobs

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on October 29 a $24.6 million business loan guarantee, through its Business & Industry (B&I) program, for a new beef processing plant in Dimmitt, Texas. The plant is locally owned and USDA-inspected, is expected to process about 400 head of cattle a day, and will create 220 new jobs at an average wage of about $30 an hour. The project was launched by 36 local investors.
Vice President JD Vance announced the support. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said investments of this kind are meant to build beef processing capacity in ranching communities, reduce producers' dependence on a handful of large packers, and keep more value in rural areas.
Dimmitt sits in the Texas Panhandle, in one of the country's main cattle-raising regions. Once built, the plant will let local ranchers process cattle closer to home, shortening hauls.
