United States and Hungary Sign 'Trump Peace Pipelines' Memorandum at the State Department in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 29: Strengthening Central and Eastern European Oil and Gas Infrastructure

On October 29, 2026, at a signing ceremony at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen regional oil and natural gas infrastructure, expand access to American energy, and diversify energy supplies across Central and Eastern Europe. Rubio said the energy agreement builds on an initiative announced by Energy Secretary Chris Wright at the Three Seas Initiative summit — an energy infrastructure initiative that helps meet Central Europe's energy needs, helps expand U.S. energy exports, and gives the region more energy independence or at least energy diversification. The Department of Energy launched the Trump Peace Pipelines framework on April 28 at a summit in Dubrovnik, Croatia, describing it as a U.S.-led effort to improve regional infrastructure and expand capacity to import American liquefied natural gas. Orban said the agreement would support oil and gas infrastructure in Southeastern and Central Europe while creating alternative energy supply sources. The two sides also signed a separate agreement the same day to strengthen law enforcement cooperation against violent left-wing organizations.
