Albany, Albany County, New York: Early Voting Tops 1.11 Million Statewide as of Wednesday Evening, October 28; Albany County Early Turnout Set to Double

Early voting in New York State, including Albany in Albany County, continued to climb: as of Wednesday evening, October 28, 1,110,053 people had voted early statewide. According to preliminary state Board of Elections data, nearly 26,800 voters had cast early ballots in Albany County by the end of the day Wednesday — already more than the roughly 25,000 who voted during all nine days of early voting in the 2022 midterms — and county election officials expect the final early-voting total could double. Albany County Democratic Election Commissioner Allison McLean Lane said Wednesday that staff have been moving between poll sites to make sure voting is going smoothly and without barriers, and that more machines and poll pads have been brought in to handle the turnout. Other Capital Region counties also saw strong turnout as of Wednesday evening: 9,509 in Rensselaer County, 10,586 in Schenectady County and 18,093 in Saratoga County. Early voting in New York runs through Sunday, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. McLean Lane said she expects the high turnout to remain steady in the final days of early voting; polling site locations and hours are available on each county board of elections website.
