Thursday, October 29, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

The Glenville High School football team in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, was removed from the 2026 playoffs by the Ohio High School Athletic Association on October 29. The association announced the decision in an email late that evening, ending Glenville's postseason in Division III, Region 9, as part of an ongoing investigation into the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and its inaccurate assignment of student participation opportunities to Glenville. At the center of the investigation is Ginn Academy, a non-member magnet school under the school district that does not offer sports; under the rules, Ginn Academy student-athletes may participate only at the district school closest to their residence. The association found the assignment of the students' participation opportunities did not comply with the rules and removed Glenville from the playoffs. Glenville, known as the Tarblooders, is a traditional Cleveland-area power. The association said the investigation is ongoing and no further results have been announced.
