According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, as of October 29, 633,073 absentee ballots had been returned statewide in Wisconsin — up nearly 7% from the 593,819 returned by the Thursday before Election Day in the 2022 midterms — Wisconsin officials in Madison, Dane County, reported. The returned ballots include both mail-in ballots and ballots cast in person at early voting sites across the state. In-person absentee voting, i.e., early voting, has increased 54% since 2022, while the share of ballots returned by mail or drop box has decreased by about 20%. The drop in mail voting comes as confidence in mail-in voting has declined: a Pew Research Center survey of registered voters nationwide showed confidence in mail-in voting falling from 66% in 2022 to 53% in 2026. Absentee voting in Wisconsin is still underway, and Election Day is November 3.
