Secretary Rubio and Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán Sign Two MOUs on Law Enforcement Cooperation and Energy Infrastructure

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed two memorandums of understanding with Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán on October 29 in the Colin L. Powell Treaty Room at the State Department in Washington, one on law enforcement cooperation and information exchange and one on energy infrastructure and regional energy security, according to the remarks released by the State Department.
Rubio said the first MOU will increase cooperation and information sharing to confront what he called a resurgence of far-left terrorism, tracking cross-border networks and bringing them to justice, and thanked Hungary as an important partner in Europe on this emerging threat.
Orbán said the first MOU will enhance information sharing under existing law enforcement cooperation to prevent, detect and prosecute violence by left-wing groups, and that while the MOUs are key milestones, they are part of a process; she said she hoped to return home with concrete next steps under both agreements and beyond.
The second MOU falls within the Trump Peace Pipelines framework. Rubio called it another milestone since Secretary Wright announced the initiative at the Three Seas Initiative Summit, saying it helps meet Central Europe's energy needs through U.S. energy and supports energy diversification. Orbán said the cooperation will enhance energy infrastructure in Southeast and Central-Eastern Europe in oil and gas, help Hungary become an important player in regional energy supply, and support predictable, stable and affordable energy for consumers and industry.
Orbán added that the cooperation also spans nuclear, security, defense and economic fields, and that the two sides would hold their first official meeting after the signing ceremony.
A State Department readout of the day's meeting also noted that Rubio and Orbán discussed energy diversification, law enforcement cooperation, cybersecurity cooperation and multilateral priorities.
