New York: Edwards Vacuum Completes $319 Million Dry Pump Plant in Genesee County, Creating Up to 600 Jobs

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on October 29 that Edwards Vacuum has completed construction of its $319 million dry vacuum pump manufacturing facility in the Town of Alabama, Genesee County, New York, at the Western New York Science and Technology Advanced Manufacturing Park (WNY STAMP).

The 240,000-square-foot plant is expected to produce 10,000 dry pumps per year and create up to 600 jobs at full capacity. Dry vacuum pumps are critical equipment in semiconductor chip manufacturing, maintaining the clean vacuum environments the production process requires.

The all-electric facility is seeking LEED certification and runs mostly on hydropower. The state said the plant's processes will cut carbon dioxide emissions by up to 13,000 tons per year compared with conventional approaches.

Empire State Development is providing up to $21 million in support through Excelsior Jobs Program and Investment Tax Credits, plus $1 million in workforce development funding. The New York Power Authority is supplying 4.9 megawatts of Niagara hydropower along with 2.1 megawatts of high-load-factor power.

Hochul said the completed plant is an important step in building New York's semiconductor corridor and bringing well-paying manufacturing jobs to Western New York.

Dan Papsidero, general manager of Edwards Product Company in Genesee, said the new facility will significantly expand the company's North American dry pump capacity. Martin Tollner, president of the Semiconductor Division at Atlas Copco, Edwards Vacuum's parent company, also took part in the announcement, and Empire State Development President and CEO Hope Knight said the state will keep supporting advanced manufacturing projects like this one.
