Indiana: $109.9 Million in Community Crossings Matching Grants Awarded to 346 Communities

Friday, October 30, 2026 · States · GSM News

Indiana announced $109.9 million in state matching funds for 346 cities, towns and counties through the Indiana Department of Transportation's Community Crossings Matching Grants, for local road and bridge construction and preservation. The awards were presented at the 43rd Annual Indiana MPO-IARC Conference in Kokomo.

Community Crossings is funded from the state's local road and bridge matching grant fund, with long-term funding identified in House Enrolled Act 1002 of 2017. Local governments propose projects and put up matching money, and the state shares the cost, directing resources to the streets and bridges each community knows best.

The state said that after recent legislative changes, the program is capped at $100 million per year, and each local unit can receive up to $1 million per state fiscal year. This round followed the FY2027 call for projects held in September.

INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist took part in the announcement. Officials said state highways and local roads form one network for daily travel and freight, and Community Crossings exists to fund the local half of that network.
