New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on October 29 that the state is investing a total of $13.5 million, administered through DASNY, in two major community development projects in the Capital Region, both in Albany County, New York.

A $7 million grant goes to Albany County to purchase and renovate the Neil Hellman Library and the Events and Athletics Center on the former College of Saint Rose campus in Albany, a 27-acre, 71-building campus, converting them into an intergenerational community center offering health and wellness, arts and crafts, technology and financial workshops.

The former campus is being redeveloped by the Albany County Pine Hills Land Authority (ACPHLA), created under legislation Hochul signed in June 2024, which finalized its acquisition of the campus last spring. Centennial Hall and the Massry Center are already being reactivated, and senior housing is planned on more than three acres of the site.

A second grant of $6.5 million goes to the Center for Disability Services to acquire the former ShopRite supermarket in Slingerlands, in the Town of Bethlehem, vacant since 2023, and convert it into a new educational facility for its Langan School. The new facility will allow more than 50 students to come off the school's waitlist; the Center has served the region for more than 80 years.

Hochul, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy, DASNY President and CEO Robert J. Rodriguez, OPWDD Commissioner Willow Baer, Center President and CEO Gregory Sorrentino, Albany Mayor Dr. Dorcey Applyrs and Bethlehem Supervisor David VanLuven backed the two projects.
