Massachusetts: Governor Healey Awards $800,000 to Improve Workplace Safety for Nearly 7,000 Workers

Friday, October 30, 2026 · States · GSM News

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey announced that the state is awarding $800,000 in workplace safety training grants to 187 organizations, reaching nearly 7,000 workers.

The grants are administered by the Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) within the state's labor and workforce development secretariat. Recipients include municipalities, small businesses, and minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses, in higher-risk sectors such as manufacturing and construction.

Since the training grant program began in 1988, DIA has awarded about $25 million, training roughly 340,000 workers across 1,880 employers. Organizations can apply for training grants of up to $25,000 through the state's SafetyWorks Initiative at mass.gov/SafetyWorks.

Healey said every worker deserves to come home safe at the end of the day, and that the grants help employers remove workplace hazards before anyone gets hurt.

Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Lauren Jones, and DIA Office of Safety Director Maryann Falvey said the training grants directly reduce workplace injuries and insurance costs, which is especially important for small businesses.
