Georgia: Gov. Kemp, Georgia Ports Host Gainesville Inland Port Grand Opening

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp joined the Georgia Ports Authority on October 29 for the official grand opening of the Gainesville Inland Port in Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia. The $134 million facility had already begun operations on May 4, 2026.
The inland port links Northeast Georgia directly to the Port of Savannah by Norfolk Southern rail; Savannah offers 40 weekly vessel calls. At full build-out the facility will handle 200,000 containers a year, and the Ports Authority expects to shift 26,000 containers from truck to rail in the first year.
The truck gate operates from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, with access via Interstates 85 and 985. The authority said the region is a two-million-person consumer market with more than 300 manufacturers; since 2020, 78 companies have located or expanded in Gainesville-Hall County, adding more than 4,800 jobs and $2 billion in investment, and manufacturing, processing and logistics account for 33 percent of the local workforce. The authority also funded $4.8 million in Hall County road projects.
The inland port is part of the authority's roughly $5 billion ten-year plan. The planned Savannah Container Terminal, a $2.3 billion, 350-acre project with 3.5 million TEU of capacity, is set to start construction in 2028 and open in the mid-2030s, taking Savannah's total capacity to 12 million TEU.
Kemp said the inland port brings a world-class seaport within reach of Northeast Georgia businesses. GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch, Chairman Alec Poitevint and President Kevin Price took part in the ceremony.
