Riverside, California: Museum of Riverside Unveils 'California's Grizzlies' Exhibition on October 30, Telling the Story of the State Flag's Vanished Bear

Friday, October 30, 2026 · City · GSM News

The Museum of Riverside, in the City of Riverside, Riverside County, California, is presenting its newest highlight exhibition, "California's Grizzlies," with an unveiling on Friday, October 30, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Orange Terrace Community Center, 20010 Orange Terrace Parkway.

Curated by Curator of Natural History Ian M. Wright, the exhibition uses video, replicas and hands-on activities to explore where grizzlies once roamed across California, how early pioneers and settlers dealt with them, and how the species vanished from the state's wilderness by the early twentieth century. The California grizzly remains on the state flag and is among California's best-known symbols.

The Museum of Riverside's main building is currently under renovation ahead of a planned 2027 reopening, and the museum has been taking exhibitions into community venues. The Orange Terrace Community Center, in eastern Riverside, is a city parks and recreation facility.

The unveiling is open to the public, and the city suggests registering in advance through the museum's page. Exhibition details are available at the Museum of Riverside page on the city website, riversideca.gov/museum.
