In Osceola, Mississippi County, Arkansas, U.S. Steel broke ground on October 30 on a $1.9 billion direct reduced iron (DRI) production facility at its Big River Steel Works, the first facility of its kind for the company.

The project links Minnesota iron ore production to electric arc furnace steelmaking in Arkansas, strengthening the company's advanced capabilities. U.S. Steel said the investment will create approximately 200 full-time jobs and an estimated 2,000 construction jobs at peak. Preliminary site preparation is underway, and construction is expected to begin in the latter part of 2026.

Osceola, on the Mississippi River in northeastern Arkansas, has become a hub for the state's steel industry, and Big River Steel Works is U.S. Steel's core asset there.
