In El Mirage, Maricopa County, Arizona, lightning struck near El Mirage Elementary School at 8:39 a.m. on October 30, and four staff members were taken to a hospital after feeling its effects. No students were injured.

El Mirage police Lt. Jimmy Chavez said officers responded to the school near El Mirage and Waddell roads after a lightning report. Dysart Unified School District spokesperson Ryan McGinley said the school had implemented a precautionary shelter-in-place as students arrived; several staff members reported feeling effects from the nearby strike, were evaluated by medical personnel on site, and were transported to a hospital, all four conscious.

The shelter-in-place has since been lifted and classes continued on their regular schedule, though the school canceled outdoor recess and minimized outdoor transitions out of caution. Thunderstorms moved through the Phoenix area that morning, and a flood watch was in effect for central Arizona.
