In Milford, Sussex County, Delaware, Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro on October 30 urged health insurance carriers, pharmacy benefit managers, and managed care organizations statewide to act swiftly and flexibly to help families affected by the Lulu M. Ross Elementary School fire replace essential medications.

According to the state, the October 25 fire at Lulu M. Ross Elementary School in Milford destroyed medications maintained on site for students. Secretary of Health and Social Services Christen Linke Young and Secretary of Education Cindy Marten notified the Department of Insurance.

Families seeking replacement medications may face refill timing restrictions, prior authorization requirements, and quantity limits. The department issued Domestic and Foreign Insurers Bulletin No. 168 in response, and the state said regulated entities should respond with urgency and flexibility so no student goes without needed medication because of the fire.
