Alaska Air Group Announces About 200 Management Layoffs on October 30: 48 Positions in Hawaii and 125 in Washington State

In Honolulu, Hawaii, Alaska Air Group told employees on October 30 that it will cut about 200 management positions across the company, including 48 in Hawaii and 125 in Washington state.

Hawaiian Airlines CEO Diana Birkett Rakow said that of the 48 affected Hawaii positions, 40 will be eliminated entirely and eight employees will be offered other roles within the group. Affected employees were notified October 30 and will be out of their jobs November 13, but will continue to receive pay through December 31, 2026, along with severance and transition support.

Group President and CEO Ben Minicucci wrote to employees that despite the right strategy and strong momentum, fuel prices and geopolitical challenges are putting significant financial pressure on the business, and if current conditions persist the group could lose as much as $700 million this year — its first adjusted pretax loss outside the pandemic since 2003. The cuts affect management, not front-line employees. Hawaii operations head Jim Landers and guest operations head Shelly Parker will retire at year's end.
