Nearly 1,200 Chicago Parking Teamsters Vote October 30 on Strike Authorization as the Master Parking Agreement Expires October 31

Friday, October 30, 2026 · States · GSM News

In Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, nearly 1,200 members of Teamsters Local 727 who work for parking operators across the Chicago area voted on October 30 on whether to authorize a strike over unfair labor practices.

The vote comes as negotiations continue ahead of the October 31 expiration of the Master Parking Agreement, which covers workers at operators including SP Plus/Metropolis, LAZ Parking, Interpark, ABM, Imperial/Reimagine Parking, Legacy Parking, and ACE. The operators bargain as a group through the Chicago Parking Association. The union has filed or is preparing unfair labor practice charges alleging refusal to bargain, failure to provide information, unilateral changes, retaliation, and unlawful surveillance.

The union stresses that a strike authorization vote does not mean an immediate strike, but adds leverage for a fair contract. Local 727 represents nearly 10,000 workers across the Chicago area. If no new agreement is reached after the contract expires, parking services in the region could be affected.
