In Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, City-County Councilor Crista Lee Wells of District 11 announced on October 30 that she will resign effective October 31 to move to the next chapter of her personal and professional life.

In her resignation letter shared with council leadership on October 30, Wells said she wants more time with her family and her dog, noting that after the holidays her daughter will have only three semesters left of high school. A councilor since 2020, she was the youngest woman ever elected to the council when she won in November 2019, and she leaves with more than a year left in her second term, ahead of the 2027 city elections. Under state law, the Marion County Democratic Party has 30 days to hold a special caucus to choose her replacement.

Wells chaired the council committee that hired a law firm to investigate Mayor Joe Hogsett's handling of sexual harassment allegations within his administration, and she called for the council's president and vice president to step down. She is the third councilor to resign since August, after Republican Joshua Bain left in August to serve on the state Utility Regulatory Commission and Democrat Ali Brown resigned in September.
