Bill Gatton Foundation Announces $30 Million Gift to the University of Kentucky Arboretum in Lexington on October 30: New Education Building and Visitor Center Renovation

In Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, the Bill Gatton Foundation announced on October 30 a $30 million commitment to the University of Kentucky — Lexington-Fayette County Arboretum, the State Botanical Garden of Kentucky, for new and renovated facilities and landscape improvements.
University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto announced the gift at a celebration at the Arboretum on October 29, joined by foundation trustees, university and city leaders, donors, volunteers, and community members. The Arboretum is a 100-acre public garden managed by the university's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
The gift will fund a new education building, renovations to the Dorotha Smith Oatts Visitor Center, and enhancements to the Walk Across Kentucky living museum and native plant collection. The announcement marks 40 years since the university and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government signed their 1986 agreement establishing the Arboretum partnership. Design work is underway, with completion anticipated in the third quarter of 2028.
