Maryland Announces the Safer Stronger Together Community Safety Initiative on October 30: $500,000 Statewide for Violence Prevention

Friday, October 30, 2026 · States · GSM News

In Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, Governor Wes Moore announced on October 30, together with the departments of Human Services, Public Safety and Correctional Services, and Juvenile Services, an additional $500,000 investment in the Safer Stronger Together community safety initiative, supporting work in Hagerstown, Salisbury, and East Baltimore.

The investment will help sustain local efforts to reduce crime and expand opportunities for young people. The initiative is a key part of the Moore-Miller administration's all-of-the-above public safety strategy, which the state says has helped drive historic declines in crime.

The program has been piloted successfully in the three communities for two years, and the new funding builds on that progress. Hagerstown is in Washington County in western Maryland, Salisbury is in Wicomico County on the Eastern Shore, and East Baltimore is a community in eastern Baltimore City; all three pursue the same goal through partnerships among local law enforcement, local officials, and community partners.
