In Big Horn County, Montana, the Spring Creek Mine in the state's southeast has signed an agreement worth more than $100 million to supply coal to Malaysia over the next three years. The U.S. Department of Energy announced the agreement on October 26; the supplier is Navajo Transitional Energy Company and the buyer is TNB Fuel Services, a subsidiary of Malaysia's Tenaga Nasional.

Navajo Transitional Energy Company is owned by the Navajo Nation. Spring Creek Mine sits in Big Horn County, about 32 miles north of Sheridan, Wyoming. The agreement was recognized at an event in Laramie, Wyoming, on October 23 attended by federal officials and company representatives.

The Department of Energy has not disclosed the coal volumes or delivery schedule covered by the deal. The agreement is connected to trade commitments announced during the U.S. president's October 2025 visit to Malaysia. Its actual scale will depend on the volumes and timetable released later.
